Politic and technology : don’t blog it too fast

If I use a technology and I’m a fascist and reactionary does that make this technology fascist and reactionnary ?

That is the question one would answer easily, but if you think of it a little, a lot ot question can be deducted out of it and it was happened this week when I received an email “for the fans of google” pointing out the following blog post : http://pisani.blog.lemonde.fr/2008/02/19/scandale-google-travaille-pour-le-parti-republicain/

Ok it’s written in french but here’s the story, the 2008 United State republican convention to be held in september - that’s when the republican will choose their candidate for the presidential - will use google technology to power the event site. It’s apparently a technical arrangement, but some are already screaming scandal, that we should boycott google because they are helping the republican party .

The author of the post (the french one) is not really impressed by the screaming, in fact it explain the following :

Il est peut-être plus intéressant de se servir de l’anecdote comme d’un rappel d’une chose que nous avons trop souvent tendance à oublier: Aucun parti, aucun courant n’a le monopole de quelque technologie que ce soit pour “révolutionnaire” qu’on la dise et pour “participative” qu’elle soit.

Translated it says about that :

It’s probably more interesting to use the story so to remind us what we use to forget to often : No party, no political tendencies has the monopoly on any technology whatever “revolutionary” or “participative” it is.

well before telling you the rest story, I think that technology does not mix up very well with politic, and at least should stay neutral. Apparently the author who start shooting, stops and now pretend Google as a good “US corporation” plays both side equally and the republican party is just using the google brand to show that they are “techno savvy” as well.

To finish this off, I just want to add the two big corp fighting for dominance have both a social “arm” and therefore are probably not that evil, but one can surely nit-pick and find some stinky ghosts :

And to who ever wants to blog too fast than we got an example, better be late to talk about the news than say something silly !!!!
