Wake up call - 2 minutes before midnight

Two weeks ago, I received an email from an international NGO working in Vietnam, it tells me “we don’t have any legal software”, big news here, they have been working with the local “update technician“. Funny enough he’s who blew the whistle, and provoke panic on board because he read this news : French company caught with pirated software. Cutting the story short the french company will have to pay a fine of over 300,000 US dollars. The “update technician” evaluate the fine the international NGO would have to pay, if caught, at 80,000 US$.

What a call, now everybody is hurrying to buy licences, If they had listen to everyone who tell them to “MANAGE” their IT before they manage you then they would not be it that position. They could have a choice, now they are stuck. They have this 10,000 US$ evaluation to buy all the licenses.

Lesson in IT management : don’t let your contractual part-time update technician manage your technology infrastructure, why ? Because he/she doesn’t care.

Anyway, over the next weeks or so I will make work with a new firm, that took over the “update technician” to help them improve the situation and reduce the risk of paying a high fine.
