Yes you have read it. Gartner, he very much conservative IT corporate advisors have said it. Two decade ago Gartner did help Microsoft to become what they are (PDF). Now they are putting their weight behind Software freedom and open source. According to them it is no political or philosophical endorsement, it is just plain business reality.
It is so much of a business reality that they are organizing a third Open Source Summit, I’m sure it won’t be the usual Free software full of GNU/linux geeks but rather more the business kind, with the price tag that comes with it.
If big business is taking it seriously why civil Society organization and NGOs aren’t picking it up, since it add a business side to a more or less practical and political one ?
