We’ve been waiting this one for a long long time, if you are in a dire need of an alternative office suite, then it is the time. Grab a download or a torrent and have fun, unless you are a MAC OSX user, you will need to wait a little just the time it comes out of the Release Candidate status. I’m not new to it since I’m using the various betas since early this year, but here are the main I’m finding about this new version :
- For Windows users, the suite itself had an appearance lifting, the look is clearer and those who were resisting because it was looking ugly have no more reason not to switch.
- It has a new module called, OpenOffice Base, which is a front end for the database capability (and it add a database since most windows users have no database installed) now you can open your MS-Access database and play with the tables.
- The Impress application (to make presentation) looks more like
Windows users, it is much much faster to start, and since the main pet peeve about OpenOffice was speed it is a BIG improvement. - Microsoft office filters/converters are even a little better in particular for the Powerpoint documents
